On March 4, 2014 - Department for Development of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Ministry of Public Health, led by Mr. Tawatchai Kamoldharm, Director-General, and a team of doctors, nurses, and staffs made a visit to Chulabhorn Hospital for observation and exchanging knowledge & experience on cancer research and treatment.

On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Rabin Ruttanapanee, Deputy Director of Chulabhorn Hospital for Administration Affairs, made a welcome speech to the visiting team, and Dr. Wisute Lamlertthon, Assistant to Director of Chualabhorn Hospital for Research and Academic Affairs, presented on the hospital’s operational systems and comprehensive services to cancer patients and general public.

Department for Development of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine has set up Thai Traditional Medicine Research Institute, with a vision to be the main centre for clinical research on Thai traditional medicine of Public Health Ministry in the year 2017. Also, the mission of this institute includes academic development in Thai traditional and alternative medicine, as well as protection, preservation and promotion of Thai intellectuals on Thai traditional medicine towards knowledge and technological transfer & development up to international standards and health quality & safety as an alternative for Thai populations in healthcare.

To develop personnel in Thai traditional medicine for better expertise in effective clinical research, the department thus aimed to visit Chulabhorn Hospital as a specialized hospital for comprehensive services of cancer treatment with up to date and modern diagnostic tools & technology along with cancer research development. In the meantime, the sharing and exchanging knowledge and experience between the two institutions also highlighted for the highest benefit and best quality to cancer patients.

The team from Department for Development of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine went to visit several units of Chulabhorn Hospital such as inpatient wards (IPD, 7th floor), Chromosome and Cancer Genetics Laboratory, outpatient (OPD) unit, chemotherapy unit, and risk assessment clinic.

The visit of Department for Development of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine would also be fruitful and beneficial for the medical personnel of Chulabhorn Hospital to adapt knowledge and suggestions on Thai traditional and alternative medicine for cancer control and prevention, along with cancer care and treatment for better quality of life in Thai patients as a whole.
